CUB - 19

Chapter 19: He Must Be a Good Person

Now that there was no need to make desserts, with his hands free, Niannian let Ji Suize hold his hand, even happily squeezing back. Little did he know that this indulgent behavior would only make Ji Suize grow increasingly bold and unrestrained.

Ji Suize was satisfied, his brows and eyes relaxing as his reflection in the oven gradually drew closer to Niannian’s shadow, their hair seeming to blend together.

Just as Ji Suize was immersed in contentment, an uninvited guest interrupted this warm and beautiful moment.

The other three families had already finished their desserts, and a staff member had come to deliver them. Before leaving, he took away the freshly baked soufflés and continued on to deliver desserts to the other families.

All four families lived in City S, so the staff had placed ice packs in the packaging bags. By the time the desserts arrived, the ice packs hadn’t completely melted, and the desserts remained intact.

The other three families had made tiramisu, crème brûlée cake, and fruit mille-feuille cake, respectively.

Niannian loved eating small cakes, but his family was poor. His wealthy father was unwilling to provide financial support, and his mother was reluctant to spend money on him. Only when she was in a particularly good mood would she occasionally buy him a small cake.

The neighbor’s grandson once told him that the cakes he ate were of very poor quality, the sponge was hard, and the cream was definitely not made from animal fat. Such cakes could be bought for just a few yuan on certain grocery shopping apps and could be considered junk food.

After the grandson’s reminder, Niannian realized that cakes also had different grades. The grandson once shared a small piece of cake with him, a 4-inch cake that cost over two hundred yuan. With just one bite, Niannian was amazed, suddenly feeling that all the small cakes he had eaten before were bland and tasteless.

However, he didn’t dare tell his mother that he wanted to eat the kind of cake the grandson often had.

When his mother bought him those low-quality cakes again, he still ate them without complaint. If he refused, he wouldn’t even get to eat those anymore.

Now, the kind of small cakes he had once seen in shop windows were right before his eyes. Niannian stared intently, his eyes wide with fascination.

Although two of the three cakes weren’t very aesthetically pleasing, it didn’t affect his appetite.

As long as they were small cakes, he loved them all!

Su Yanheng wiped the corner of Niannian’s mouth and teased, “Hurry and wipe your drool.”

Niannian quickly wiped his mouth, but his palm was smooth, there was no drool at all.

Realizing that the big brother was teasing him, Niannian flushed bright red, shrinking closer to Ji Suize and hiding half of his little head behind Ji Suize’s shoulder. He whispered in defense, “I wasn’t drooling.”

Su Yanheng continued to joke, “Why are you hiding behind your Suize Brother? Are you trying to wipe your drool on his clothes to destroy the evidence?”

“I wasn’t!” Niannian quickly poked his little head out, lifting his face toward the camera. His dark, sparkling eyes were filled with grievance. “I really wasn’t drooling.”

Seeing that he couldn’t convince the big brother, he turned to the sharp-eyed audience to prove his innocence.

【Ahhh, baby, don’t be like this, are you trying to melt your auntie’s heart?】

【This close-up shot is amazing! My baby’s looks are already so stunning at such a young age!】

【Alright, alright, baby, whatever you say is right. You definitely weren’t drooling, it was Su Yanheng who was drooling.】

【Aww, the baby even knows how to blush, so much cuter! [Holding face with an auntie’s smile]】

"Alright, big brother was just teasing you. I won't tease you anymore. Come have some cake." Having teased enough, Su Yanheng pulled Niannian out from behind Ji Suize. "Which one do you want to try first?"

"This one!" Niannian pointed to the fruit mille-feuille closest to him.

He wasn't picky, any cake would do.

Each cake came with a card bearing the maker's name. When Su Yanheng saw the name on the card, his smile froze.

The other two cards only listed the maker's name, but this one had a few additional notes: "I made four flavors: Shine Muscat grape, mango, chocolate, and peach. Those allergic to mango, please avoid it! , Gu Tingfei"

Su Yanheng could tell at a glance that behind this seemingly thoughtful reminder lay Gu Tingfei's scheming.

They say your enemy knows you best. Having known each other for years, they were well aware of each other's details. Gu Tingfei couldn't possibly not know about his mango allergy. Yet he deliberately included mango, clearly targeting him!

Gu Tingfei hadn't written those reminders out of genuine consideration, he was writing for the audience.

Stepping on him to build goodwill for himself, how despicable.

But because of Gu Tingfei's reminder, Su Yanheng thought to ask, "Are any of you allergic to mango?"

Even though he knew Gu Tingfei had set a trap, he had no choice but to step into it.

[Huh? Doesn't Su Yanheng know about this? He's allergic to mango himself, he should be more attentive to his little brothers, right?]

[Looks like his kindness toward his brothers is all for show!]

[It's just a mango allergy. Does it have to be about putting on a show?]

[Some people just don't think about these things. What's the problem with that?]

[If Gu Tingfei already considered that someone might be allergic to mango, why did he still make a mango flavor?]

[But mango mille-feuille is delicious! Not everyone is allergic to mango!]

Ji Suize shook his head. Niannian asked, confused, "Allergic?"

Su Yanheng explained, and Niannian suddenly understood, it was the first time he'd learned that some people could be allergic to mango.

"I've never eaten mango before," Niannian said. "I don't know if I'm allergic."

Su Yanheng replied, "Then let's avoid the mango flavor for now. Try the other flavors."

Niannian wasn't picky either. Pointing to the peach flavor, he said, "I want to try this one."

Su Yanheng then asked Ji Suize, "Xiao Ze, which one do you want?"

Ji Suize took the mango mille-feuille that neither of them wanted.

The portions of the cakes were small, and the three of them quickly finished all three.

After tasting them, the little guests had to choose the best-tasting cake.

Su Yanheng regretted that he couldn't participate in this part. If it were up to him, he definitely wouldn't choose Gu Tingfei, he'd even give him a hundred negative reviews.

Ji Suize didn't want to participate either, so the task naturally fell to Niannian.

Niannian rested his chin on his hand, his gaze shifting between the three empty plates, his expression deeply conflicted.

Su Yanheng silently hoped that his little brother would share his thoughts and not choose Gu Tingfei.

Among the three cakes, the tiramisu looked the most appealing, while the other two lost points in presentation. However, both tasted better than the tiramisu.

After much deliberation, Niannian finally pointed to the fruit mille-feuille. "I like this one."

"Why?" Su Yanheng cleared his throat, returning to his normal tone. "Didn't you say the crème brûlée cake was delicious earlier?"

"The crepe cake is delicious, and the fruit is tasty too." Niannian picked up Gu Tingfei's "kind-hearted" card. "This big brother is very thoughtful, he must be a good person."
