Lin Wanran booked the earliest available flight.
The boarding time was quite soon, but because they were flying business class, both check-in and security were very quick.
So, the two boarded the plane without rushing.
When the plane landed in Shanghai, it was already evening.
The sky was gradually darkening.
“I booked a hotel inside the Shanghai Disney Resort; we can go directly there,” Lin Wanran said.
Shen Mianyin didn't bring much either, just a small carry-on suitcase like Lin Wanran's.
She only brought pajamas, a change of clothes for tomorrow, and travel-sized skincare products.
For makeup, she only brought a cushion foundation, a pressed powder compact, a multi-use lip and cheek tint, and an eyebrow pencil.
She didn't pack anything else, like mascara or eyeshadow.
She just wanted to look good for photos.
When going out with Lin Wanran, taking photos is a must.
"I didn't expect you to be so well-prepared, even arranging a car in advance," Shen Mianyin said in surprise as she got into the car.
This was unlike Lin Wanran's usual personality.
"Oh, these were all arranged by someone else," Lin Wanran waved her hand, not daring to take credit.
Shen Mianyin assumed it was arranged by Lin Wanran's assistant or someone similar, so she didn't ask further.
The two entered the hotel to check in.
However, Shen Mianyin noticed that there wasn't a single guest in the lobby.
This didn't make sense. Logically, there should be many guests in the lobby, including lots of children, making it lively and bustling.
But now, it was eerily quiet, giving her a strange feeling.
"The hotel is so quiet today," Shen Mianyin said casually.
"I haven't seen any guests at all."
"Maybe everyone is playing in the park," Lin Wanran said with a forced laugh, thinking to herself that this mission was getting harder and harder.
"Really?" Shen Mianyin still felt it was odd. It shouldn't be completely empty.
After checking in, the two went to their rooms.
Surprisingly, Lin Wanran had booked two separate rooms. Previously, they had always shared a room when they traveled together.
"Aren't we staying together?" Shen Mianyin asked curiously.
"Haha, I think the single beds are a bit small."
"We're quite tired from the journey too. Let's rest for a bit and go watch the fireworks after dinner, okay?" Lin Wanran quickly changed the subject.
"Sure," Shen Mianyin replied. This time, she was mainly focused on accompanying Lin Wanran and didn't have any particular demands.
A little after six o'clock, the two went to the hotel restaurant for dinner.
When they figured it was about the right time, Lin Wanran pulled Shen Mianyin to go watch the fireworks.
"Something's not right. Why is no one here?" Shen Mianyin asked, puzzled.
Usually, there are so many people watching the fireworks, and they all come early to secure a good spot.
Logically, at this time, the ground should already be full of people sitting, and there wouldn't be any space left for them.
Not to mention, there wasn't a single person there at the moment.
"I felt something was off as soon as we arrived," Shen Mianyin said. "When we went to check in at the hotel, there wasn't a single other guest in the lobby."
"When we were eating, there was no one else in the restaurant either."
"If you weren't here with me, I'd be scared," she added. "This is like filming a horror movie."
"Since we left the hotel, we haven't seen a single person." Such a large amusement park, and not a soul in sight.
Faced with this, Lin Wanran really couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation.
She could only raise her wrist to check her watch.
Lin Wanran's eyes lit up. The timing is perfect!
At that moment, enormous and brilliant fireworks suddenly erupted above the castle.
When the fireworks ended, the surrounding lights suddenly turned on.
And just like that, Gu Huaizhi appeared in Shen Mianyin's line of sight.
Shen Mianyin looked at the man who should have been on a business trip to Hong Kong in astonishment. "How did you..."
"I came back early to discuss something," Gu Huaizhi replied. "I didn't actually go on the business trip."
Shen Mianyin had a feeling this might be the case, but she was still stunned.
Under Shen Mianyin's astonished gaze, Gu Huaizhi slowly knelt down on one knee, holding a ring box in one hand. He opened it to reveal a diamond ring. "Mianyin, will you marry me?"
Shen Mianyin laughed and extended her left hand without a moment's hesitation. "Yes."
As if afraid she would change her mind, Gu Huaizhi very quickly slipped the ring onto Shen Mianyin's middle finger.
(T/N : in some Chinese traditions, the middle finger is used for the engagement ring.)
The ring fit perfectly, and she wondered when Gu Huaizhi had taken her measurements.
"So, you had Wanran trick me into coming here?" Shen Mianyin asked after Gu Huaizhi stood up.
Lin Wanran had already slipped away, not wanting to intrude on their moment.
"I have to thank her," Gu Huaizhi said.
"But how did you know my ring size?" Shen Mianyin asked again.
"I secretly measured it while you were sleeping," Gu Huaizhi replied.
"When did you start planning this?" Shen Mianyin was now curious about many things.
"I started thinking about how to propose during the Spring Festival holiday," Gu Huaizhi answered truthfully. "I thought about it for a long time, and then I accidentally came across information online about having weddings here, so I figured they should also be able to do proposals."
"I also asked Lin Wanran how you felt about this kind of fairytale setting," Gu Huaizhi said. "She said you liked it very much."
"Besides, I've seen quite a few related plush toys at your place, so I figured Lin Wanran wasn't lying to me." Gu Huaizhi was still a little unsure, as he'd seen how much Lin Wanran seemed to like them herself.
Could it be that she liked them and just assumed Shen Mianyin did too?
But other than Lin Wanran, Shen Mianyin didn't have any other close friends.
Shen's mother and Shen Chenggang didn't know much about Shen Mianyin's past, so they definitely wouldn't be sure of her preferences.
Gu Huaizhi asked nervously, "You do like it, right?"
"Yes," Shen Mianyin replied. She genuinely did like them, and she had bought all those plush toys herself.
And many of them were limited editions.
Gu Huaizhi breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that Shen Mianyin liked it.
"Would you like to go inside the castle?" Gu Huaizhi said. "There are areas that aren't open to the public."
Shen Mianyin nodded emphatically.
She was very curious to see what it looked like to look out from inside the castle.
Gu Huaizhi then took Shen Mianyin inside for a tour.
"Wait, did you rent out the entire place?" Shen Mianyin belatedly asked.
"Of course," Gu Huaizhi nodded. "Otherwise, there would be too many people, and it wouldn't be convenient for the proposal."
Shen Mianyin didn't even dare to ask how much it cost to rent it for a day.
Gu Huaizhi was terrifyingly extravagant.
"Since you've rented the whole place, the facilities should be operating normally, right?" Shen Mianyin asked again.
Before, when she came with Lin Wanran, even with VIP tickets, there were still a lot of people.
Unlike now, there wasn't a single person, and they could play however they wanted.
"Yes," Gu Huaizhi understood what Shen Mianyin meant. "Which one do you want to play first?"
"The daytime and nighttime atmospheres are completely different," Gu Huaizhi said. "So I've also rented it out for tomorrow daytime, so you can come and play tomorrow as well."
Shen Mianyin silently opened her mouth wide in surprise.
Shen Mianyin admitted that she had never had so much fun before.
No need to queue, they could go through any passage they wanted.
