Gu Luo'an frowned, a little displeased himself.
Not with Su's parents, but with his uncle.
What kind of surgery could be so important that it could cause a previously agreed-upon arrangement to suddenly change, even to the point of allowing someone to jump the queue?
This was essentially showing no respect even to him, the nephew.
Gu Luo'an felt quite embarrassed in front of Su's parents.
Gu Luo'an directly asked the nurse, "Who is my uncle scheduled to operate on next?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Gu, this is patient privacy, I cannot disclose that," the nurse replied.
"Are they afraid we'll go cause trouble for them?" Mrs. Su's said irritably. "I'd like to see who has such influence that they can get Director Gu to move things around, even disregarding Luo'an's reputation."
"If you won't tell me, I can ask my uncle myself," Gu Luo'an said.
The nurse hesitated for a moment, then said, "Mr. Gu, our hospital does have rules and regulations, I really can't say."
'If you can, you should just go ask Director Gu yourself.'
"What's going on?" Director Zhang from the administration department happened to walk by.
He had heard that Director Gu's nephew had personally come to the hospital today, apparently because of a friend's surgery.
So he made a special trip to check in, hoping to do Gu Luo'an a favor.
"Luo'an," Director Zhang called out warmly, taking Gu Luo'an's arm, "What's the matter?"
"Uncle Zhang," Gu Luo'an breathed a sigh of relief. These kinds of things were usually handled very well by Director Zhang. He then explained, "It's like this, my friend is supposed to have a kidney transplant today, and I had already arranged for my uncle to perform the surgery."
“But I don't know what happened, just now the nurse told me that my uncle had a surgery suddenly added to his schedule, so he can't do it for my friend,” Gu Luo'an said, taking a deep breath. “I had already made an appointment with my uncle a long time ago. And for such an important surgery like a kidney transplant, I really trust my uncle more.”
“Of course, I don't mean to say Director Chen isn't good. It's just that having my uncle do it would give us more peace of mind.”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Director Zhang nodded in agreement.
“But… since it’s Director Gu’s decision, it’s indeed difficult for others to interfere,” Director Zhang said with some difficulty.
“Since things have come to this, there’s no way to interfere,” Gu Luo’an said. “But I am really curious, what kind of patient and what kind of surgery is so important? To be honest, a kidney transplant is already a major surgery, it couldn't be a heart transplant, could it?”
“This… I really haven’t paid attention to it, let me check for you,” Director Zhang said, turning to the nurse beside him, “Go check, what kind of surgery is it?”
The nurse turned and called the head nurse.
If something really went wrong, Director Zhang wouldn't take responsibility.
There needed to be someone to witness this.
Director Zhang chuckled in exasperation, "Look at how serious you're making this, what are you doing?"
"Director Zhang, our hospital's rules and regulations are there, we can't violate them," the head nurse said.
"Just say it was me who said it, that I wanted to see it. If anything happens, come find me, I'll take responsibility," Director Zhang said.
"We really can't say," The head nurse thought, knowing this person was clearly going to harass the patient.
"We can't disclose the ward information, even if Director Zhang asks, we won't say it," the head nurse said firmly.
“Look at you, you're really taking this seriously,” Director Zhang pointed at the head nurse, then reassured Su's mother, “Mrs. Su, don't worry, leave this matter to me, I’ll find out for you.”
The head nurse also heard what Director Zhang said, and returned to the nurses' station angrily, "Don't pay any attention to him. If he's capable, let him investigate it himself, we're not going to participate in this."
"I've made it clear," the head nurse warned, "No matter who Director Zhang asks about, everyone should consider whether they can take responsibility. Our rules and regulations are right here. I haven't said anything today. If any of you want to tell him, that's your own business, I certainly can't control that. But if something goes wrong, don't come begging me for mercy. If this matter is investigated thoroughly, it will lead to dismissal."
Everyone nodded in agreement, promising not to say anything.
Hearing the commotion outside, Shen Mianyin recognized the voices of Su's parents and Gu Luo'an, so she didn't go out. Instead, she asked Shen Chenggang to go out and listen to what was going on.
After a while, Shen Chenggang returned and explained the situation.
“This family is really something,” Shen Chenggang shook his head. “Relying on their wealth, they think they can do whatever they want. What? If they find out our situation, they might even try to stop our surgery?”
“They might actually do that,” Shen Mianyin thought for a moment and then said, “Mom, Brother, you need to be mentally prepared. The family outside… they are Su Yiqing’s biological parents.”
“So, the surgery they’re talking about is Su Yiqing’s surgery?” Shen Chenggang asked.
Shen Mianyin nodded.
Although Mother Shen was very disappointed with Su Yiqing, she still had years of affection for her, so she said, “Why don’t… why don’t we let Director Gu do it for her? It’s the same for me if Director Chen does it.”
“Mom, no,” Shen Chenggang immediately said. “If you do that, they won’t appreciate your kindness. When our family was in such difficulty before, you didn’t have money for medical treatment, and when I asked Su Yiqing for the money back, she refused, willing to watch you die. And you’re still thinking about her?”
“Furthermore, if you do this, how is Mianyin supposed to feel?” Shen Chenggang glanced at Shen Mianyin, then said to Mother Shen, “Right now, it’s all thanks to Mianyin paying for everything that you can see a doctor and have surgery. It’s also Mianyin who used her connections to invite Director Gu. How can you, with just a few casual words, give all of this away? What does that make of all the effort Mianyin put in?”
“Mom, we are a family, we have nothing to do with that ingrate. You need to distinguish clearly who is good to you. Mianyin hasn’t blamed us, and is still close to us. We can’t take advantage of her!”
Mother Shen wiped away her tears and said, “I know, I know… I was just confused for a moment.”
“You can’t be so confused in the future,” Shen Chenggang didn’t let Mother Shen off so easily. “You can’t hurt Mianyin’s feelings!”
“Look at how the Su family treated Mianyin? They kicked her out and even schemed for her kidney,” Shen Chenggang said. “Now you want to give away Mianyin’s efforts to Su Yiqing, that scoundrel?”
“Everything was achieved through Mianyin’s hard work, how much effort she put in, even if she doesn’t say it, you should be able to imagine. Just look at how anxious the Su family was when they heard Director Gu couldn’t perform the surgery for Su Yiqing. Such a prominent figure, even the Su family couldn’t invite him. For Mianyin to be able to invite him, I don't know how much effort she expended, how many people she had to ask. How could you… how could you so casually give all of this to Su Yiqing, someone who hurt Mianyin?”
Mother Shen covered her face in shame and then said to Shen Mianyin, “Mianyin, I’m sorry. I… I don’t understand anything, that’s why I said those things… I’m sorry…”
