Gu Luo'an saw Shen Mianyin walking in his direction and was about to call out to her. He even raised his arm, but then he saw her suddenly turn a corner.
Did Shen Mianyin really not see him, even when they were face to face? Or was she deliberately ignoring him?
The truth is, Shen Mianyin truly hadn’t noticed him. Her mind was preoccupied with hurrying to find Gu Huaizhi so she wouldn’t keep him waiting.
It was the first time Gu Luo'an had been so close to her, yet she didn’t notice him at all. Frustrated, he clenched his teeth, got back into his car, and quietly followed Shen Mianyin.
He watched as she walked to the back of the company and crossed the street. Gu Luo'an found it puzzling—there was no reason for her to take that route, whether she planned to hail a cab or take the subway.
Moments later, however, he spotted a familiar GLS. One glance at the license plate confirmed it—it was Gu Huaizhi’s car.
Gu Luo'an gripped the steering wheel tightly, his heart sinking lower and lower. Sure enough, he watched as Shen Mianyin jogged across the street and got straight into that black GLS.
Clenching his teeth, Gu Luo'an followed Gu Huaizhi's car, his chest burning with fury. Since when had those two gotten involved with each other? Gu Huaizhi was even here to pick Shen Mianyin up from work!
Gu Luo'an followed them all the way and saw them stop at a supermarket to buy groceries. Watching this scene, his hands trembled as they gripped the steering wheel.
He continued trailing them, helplessly watching as Gu Huaizhi drove into Lijing Garden. This time, remembering what happened last time, Gu Luo'an parked his car on the roadside instead of attempting to drive in.
Last time, it must have been Gu Huaizhi who called the property management to have him kicked out!
So, last time, Gu Huaizhi was clearly at home, and Shen Mianyin had gone to see him. Were they living together?
Gu Luo'an parked his car by the roadside but still found a spot to climb over the wall and sneak in. This time, he didn’t stand directly under Gu Huaizhi’s building but hid in a dark corner instead.
Looking up, he saw the lights in Gu Huaizhi’s apartment were on.
This time, before Shen Mianyin could speak, Gu Huaizhi said, "Let this meal be a celebration of your promotion to general manager. So, I can't let you handle everything alone—I’ll help too."
"But I’m treating you to thank you," Shen Mianyin replied. "If we do it this way, it’s not really me treating you anymore. It’ll seem like I lack sincerity."
No wonder Gu Huaizhi had suggested earlier in the elevator that they cook directly at his place. And now, Shen Mianyin was indeed at Gu Huaizhi’s home.
"This time, let’s just treat it as a celebration of your promotion to general manager. Save the thank-you for next time," Gu Huaizhi said, rolling up his shirt sleeves as he began washing the vegetables.
"Fine, but next time, I’ll handle everything from start to finish. You can’t interfere again, or it’ll seem like I have no sincerity," Shen Mianyin insisted.
Gu Huaizhi smiled faintly. "Alright."
He was peeling a potato when his movements suddenly paused.
"What’s wrong?" Shen Mianyin stopped what she was doing and turned to ask.
"A small piece of potato peel fell onto me," Gu Huaizhi said, looking down.
"Where?" Shen Mianyin leaned in to look.
Gu Huaizhi was wearing a black shirt today, making it a bit hard to find. Shen Mianyin unconsciously leaned closer to him, carefully searching for the potato peel on his shirt.
As he looked down, Gu Huaizhi saw her head almost brushing against his chest.
A flicker of dark light passed through Gu Huaizhi's eyes. Suddenly, it seemed as though he had lost his balance, and his body leaned forward slightly.
In an instant, Shen Mianyin's face pressed directly against his waist.
Gu Huaizhi: "..." What had he done? He shouldn't have tried to tease her like that. Now, he had worked himself up for nothing.
Shen Mianyin's lips pressed directly against his waist, separated only by his shirt, feeling incredibly soft. Through the thin fabric, he could clearly feel the warmth of her lips and the softness that drove him wild.
Gu Huaizhi's breath hitched, and he couldn’t help but swallow.
Shen Mianyin, her face flushed red, quickly stepped back. She instinctively bit her lip, but all she could taste was the cedarwood fragrance on him.
Her face, ears, and even her limbs were burning with heat.
"Sorry, I lost my balance and swayed a bit," Gu Huaizhi's voice was low, with a hint of hoarseness, making it sound especially alluring in the quiet, confined space of the kitchen.
Shen Mianyin, feeling embarrassed, was momentarily speechless, only able to shake her head silently. However, the redness in her ears deepened.
"Did you find the piece of potato peel?" Gu Huaizhi asked again.
“No…” Shen Mianyin's breathing had become uneven, and she didn’t dare look up at him.
A dark glimmer passed through Gu Huaizhi's eyes as he spoke softly, “When I was peeling, I felt like something hit my neck. It might be around that area.”
He paused for a moment before continuing, “Could you help me check?”
Gu Huaizhi was holding a potato in one hand and a peeler in the other, clearly finding it inconvenient. Moreover, although the potato had been rinsed, it wasn’t thoroughly washed, leaving his hands wet with some residual dirt.
"Alright." Shen Mianyin nodded, gathering the courage to look up, but she didn’t dare meet Gu Huaizhi’s eyes. Her gaze only dared to fall on his neck.
Gu Huaizhi slightly leaned forward, seemingly to make it easier for Shen Mianyin to search. But as he leaned in, his chin and neck unexpectedly came dangerously close, almost brushing against her nose.
Shen Mianyin instinctively held her breath, but she couldn’t stop the cedarwood scent from rushing into her lungs.
She felt her mouth suddenly go dry, her eyelashes fluttering like the wings of a butterfly, trembling with every nervous blink.
Having held her breath for so long, Shen Mianyin couldn’t keep it up anymore. Finally, unable to hold it in, she took a few deep breaths. The hot, unmistakable breaths immediately brushed against the side of Gu Huaizhi's neck.
Gu Huaizhi's breath hitched, and he couldn’t suppress the heavy rise and fall of his chest. His gaze dropped to Shen Mianyin. Her breath was both sweet and warm, falling over his neck in a way that was... incredibly enticing.
Gu Huaizhi’s gaze darkened for a moment. As he lowered his head slightly, he could smell the fragrance from her hair and face—each distinct, yet together they were incredibly pleasant.
Shen Mianyin’s face was flushed, her eyelashes trembling, and Gu Huaizhi couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like if her lashes brushed against his neck. But if that happened, her nose and lips would inevitably be pressed against his neck as well.
Just the image of that flashed in his mind, and Gu Huaizhi couldn’t help but feel his breath grow heavier.
Shen Mian-yin didn't dare look at Gu Huai-zhi at this moment, nor did she know that Gu Huai-zhi was looking at her.
All she could see was the long, strong line of Gu Huai-zhi's neck, and she could faintly see the blood vessels beneath his skin.
It almost felt like Gu Huai-zhi's breath was lightly brushing against her ear.
Shen Mian-yin only had to raise her eyes slightly to see the Adam's apple protruding in his neck.
As if sensing her gaze, his Adam's apple moved at that exact moment.
Shen Mianyin's breathing quickened. In her fluster, she suddenly noticed a potato chip stuck to the collar of his neck.
It was tiny, no bigger than half a fingernail.
"I found it!" Shen Mianyin exclaimed quickly.
Gu Huaizhi turned his head to look at her subconsciously, and their noses almost touched. Their lips were so close to each other, right in front of each other's eyes.
