How did Shen Mianyin end up in Lijing Garden?
Isn't her third uncle living here?
Could it be that Shen Mianyin came to see her third uncle?
Has their relationship already reached the point where Shen Mianyin can go directly to Gu Huaizhi's house?
Gu Luo'an clenched her teeth tightly. Shen Mianyin came to see Gu Huaizhi at night—what could they possibly be doing?
Shen Mianyin still has the nerve to talk about him?
Gu Luo'an felt a fire raging in his heart, burning hotter and hotter.
He pressed the accelerator again, intending to enter Lijing Garden, but was stopped by the security guard.
Gu Luo'an had no choice but to say, "I'm here to see Gu Huaizhi. I'm his nephew."
"Please wait a moment," the security guard replied before dialing Gu Huaizhi's number.
"Mr. Gu, there's a gentleman here who claims to be your nephew and wants to see you," the security guard said.
"Gu Luo'an?" Gu Huaizhi asked.
The security guard then turned to Gu Luo'an and asked, "May I have your name, please?"
"Gu Luo'an," Gu Luo'an replied in a low voice, teetering on the edge of losing his patience.
The security guard relayed this to Gu Huaizhi, who then said, "I'm not home right now. No need to let him in."
"Understood." The security guard hung up and turned to Gu Luo'an. "Sir, Mr. Gu is not home at the moment, so it's inconvenient for you to enter."
Inconvenient?
Gu Luo'an let out a laugh, more out of anger than amusement.
Isn't it more likely that Shen Mianyin is there?
"If he's not home, I'll wait downstairs at his place," Gu Luo'an said coldly.
"Apologies, but if the resident isn't home, we cannot let anyone in," the security guard firmly replied.
No matter how forceful Gu Luo'an's tone was, the security guard remained unmoved.
Gu Luo'an had no choice but to back his car out and park by the roadside near the gate. He then called Gu Huaizhi: "Third Uncle, where are you right now?"
Gu Huaizhi replied coldly, "Do I need to report my schedule to you?"
"That's not what I meant," Gu Luo'an said, suppressing the anger and jealousy surging in his chest. "Third Uncle, I just have something to discuss with you."
"Another day. I'm busy," Gu Huaizhi said, cutting him off before he could say more and hanging up the phone.
Shen Mianyin had just changed into her pajamas and was in the middle of removing her makeup when the doorbell rang.
Shen Mianyin quickly washed off the cleansing oil from her hands and rushed to the door. Peering through the peephole, she was surprised to see Gu Huaizhi standing outside.
She opened the door, her face full of surprise. "What's wrong?"
Gu Huaizhi was momentarily taken aback. It was the first time he had seen Shen Mianyin like this.
She was dressed in loose, cozy, plush pajamas adorned with Snoopy prints, with a fluffy brown headband on her head, complete with two cat ears.
Her face still had traces of the white residue left from the emulsified cleansing oil.
Like a cat with cream on its face, she unknowingly tugged at his heartstrings.
"Gu Luo'an is at the entrance of the complex, saying he wants to come to my place," Gu Huaizhi explained. "I thought it was suspicious, so I told him I wasn't home. But the security guard mentioned he's still waiting outside. I'm worried he might find another way to get in, so I came to you first."
Shen Mianyin suddenly remembered, saying, "I saw him at the restaurant tonight; he must have followed me again."
"Looking all decent and refined, but up to no good," Shen Mianyin remarked, clearly annoyed. She quickly let Gu Huaizhi inside. "I'm really sorry; because of me, you can't go home."
However, Shen Mianyin couldn’t help but wonder—based on her memory, Gu Luo’an should be quite afraid of Gu Huaizhi. Was Gu Huaizhi truly worried that Luo’an would come knocking on his door?
No matter what, Gu Huaizhi had been caught up in her mess, and Shen Mianyin didn’t have the heart to ask directly.
Shen Mianyin quickly invited Gu Huaizhi to sit in the living room.
In such a short time, the warm atmosphere in Shen Mianyin’s home had grown considerably.
The last time he was here, her place was still empty, only containing what the landlord had left behind.
But now, there were many snacks placed on the coffee table.
A pleasant, mild fragrance floated through the room.
"Drinking tea or coffee at night can make it hard to sleep," Shen Mianyin said. "I have fruit tea, juice, and the red wine you gave me last time. What would you like to drink?"
"You don’t need to worry about me; just go handle your business," Gu Huaizhi replied. "I’ll make myself comfortable."
Shen Mianyin didn’t hold back, saying, “You know where everything is in my kitchen—help yourself if you want something to drink. I’ll go wash my face first.”
“Okay.”
Shen Mianyin hurried off to wash her face, quickly applying a bit of skincare—just enough to freshen up without taking too much time. She didn’t want to leave Gu Huaizhi waiting in the living room too long.
“Has Gu Luo’an left?” Shen Mianyin asked when she returned, all cleaned up.
Gu Huaizhi shook his head. "I told the security guard to let me know if he left."
At that moment, Gu Luo’an had actually managed to climb over the wall into Lijing Garden.
The perimeter wall of Lijing Garden was very high, not easily climbed over.
But Gu Luo’an had studied martial arts for self-defense as a teenager, and his fitness regimen over the years had kept him in good shape.
Although it took some effort, he still managed to get over the wall.
He ran to the base of Gu Huaizhi's building, looking up, and indeed saw that there were no lights on at Gu Huaizhi's place.
Did he really not come home?
At that moment, Gu Huaizhi was standing on the balcony of Shen Mianyin’s apartment, seeing Gu Luo’an standing below. He gave a scoff.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Mianyin hadn’t noticed yet.
Gu Huaizhi pointed downwards. "Gu Luo’an is standing down there."
The streetlights below illuminated the scene well enough for Shen Mianyin to soon spot a figure standing below.
Although she couldn’t clearly make out if it was Gu Luo’an.
Then, she saw Gu Huaizhi pull out his phone and zoom in on the scene below. "It's him."
Shen Mianyin leaned in unconsciously, curious about what Gu Huaizhi was seeing on his phone.
"Can you see him?" Gu Huaizhi asked.
Gu Huaizhi’s camera was focused on Gu Luo’an but he hadn’t taken the photo, so the screen wouldn’t turn towards Shen Mianyin; otherwise, Gu Luo’an would be out of the frame.
Shen Mianyin didn’t think anything was unusual in the moment, not even questioning why, with Gu Huaizhi’s intelligence, he hadn’t just taken a photo to show her.
To get a better view, Shen Mianyin unconsciously moved closer into Gu Huaizhi’s embrace.
Gu Huaizhi looked down and saw Shen Mianyin’s head bowed, her long hair tied up in a bun at the back of her head, exposing ears as white as jade.
“Can you see him?” Shen Mianyin asked, turning away, her eyes no longer looking, her tone disgusted. “He really is so sneaky.”
Gu Huaizhi smiled slightly and then called the property management. "I see a stranger lingering downstairs. Could you please send someone to check? Don’t mention anything about a thief jumping over the wall to scout the place."
Shen Mianyin: "…”
No surprise, it’s you—throwing your own nephew under the bus.
Shen Mianyin heard the property management arrange for someone to come and escort Gu Luo’an away, so she eagerly pressed her face against the window, waiting.
Gu Huaizhi chuckled softly. "Standing on the balcony—aren’t you cold?"
"Not at all. I won’t feel at ease until I see him get kicked out," Shen Mianyin replied, rubbing her hands together. She wasn’t about to miss out on the drama.
Just then, Gu Huaizhi’s phone rang again.
This time, it was Zhou Jingqi calling.
Gu Huaizhi didn’t leave; he stood next to Shen Mianyin, watching Gu Luo’an downstairs while answering the phone. “What is it?”
“President, Miss Shen tonight…”
Hearing Zhou Jingqi’s words, Gu Huaizhi lowered his gaze to look at Shen Mianyin.
