"Although the lobby on the first floor is a bit too spacious, and I have to support myself against the wall to make a big round, it’s okay. I can walk slowly," Shen Mianyin said slowly. "No need to trouble you, President Gu. You can let me walk on my own like last night."
Gu Huaizhi: "…"
This girl is getting bolder by the day!
"Zhou Jingqi, go buy a cane for Director Shen later and deliver it to her, so she doesn’t have to hold onto the wall to take detours for the next few days," Gu Huaizhi said coldly.
Shen Mianyin: "…"
"Alright, alright, Gu Huaizhi, you’re so ruthless," Shen Mianyin muttered.
She turned to look at Zhou Jingqi, just about to speak, when Gu Huaizhi suddenly opened the car door on his side. With his long legs, he quickly stepped out and walked around to her side.
"Get out of the car. I'll carry you up."
Shen Mianyin blinked innocently. "How could I possibly trouble you like that?"
Before she even finished speaking, her hand was already hooked around Gu Huaizhi's neck, and her legs cooperatively lifted slightly.
Gu Huaizhi: "…"
Resigned to his fate, Gu Huaizhi picked Shen Mianyin up and carried her out of the car.
Watching as Gu Huaizhi carried Shen Mianyin into the building, Zhou Jingqi turned to Chang He'an and asked, "Did the boss do the same thing last night?"
Chang He'an couldn't bear to look and replied with a complicated expression, "A bit better than just now... but only slightly."
"Tsk, tsk," Zhou Jingqi shook his head and said, "This is the first time I've seen the boss being completely played like this."
Chang He'an was puzzled and said, "Director Shen is so capable, knows how to act charming, and is incredibly beautiful. I just don’t understand why Gu Luo'an still..."
"Didn’t you notice that Gu Luo'an refuses to break off the engagement?" Zhou Jingqi said disdainfully. "He’s just unwilling to let go but can’t swallow his pride."
People like that are just spoiled.
As if Shen Mianyin would ever be willing.
Chang He'an shook his head. "Seriously, we’re not kids anymore. That whole 'bullying you because I like you' thing is so outdated."
“He’s spoiled by his family, always so self-centered,” Zhou Jingqi said with a smirk. “Although Miss Shen isn’t a wealthy heiress anymore, she’s decisive and straightforward, with no intention of clinging to her old life. With her personality, there’s no way she’d tolerate Gu Luo’an treating her like that.”
Chang He’an chuckled. “I think Miss Shen seems to like our president quite a bit now.”
Zhou Jingqi also let out a chuckle.
Neither of them noticed a Porsche with a broken driver’s side window parked not far away.
Inside the car, Gu Luo'an sat gripping the steering wheel. When he saw Gu Huaizhi carrying Shen Mianyin into the building, he clenched his fist and slammed it hard against the wheel in frustration.
Gu Huaizhi carried Shen Mianyin out of the elevator and stopped at Lin Wanran's apartment door.
Shen Mianyin unlocked the door with the fingerprint scanner, and after it identified her fingerprint, the door clicked open.
After stepping inside, Gu Huaizhi noticed two pairs of women’s slippers placed neatly by the shoe cabinet. He asked, “Do you share this place with someone?”
“I haven’t found a suitable place yet, so I’m temporarily staying at a friend’s house,” Shen Mianyin explained, feeling a bit awkward about letting Gu Huaizhi carry her the entire time.
Although Gu Huaizhi seemed completely unfazed, his expression calm and steady as he carried her, she said, “Mr. Gu, why don’t you put me down? I can manage the last few steps myself.”
To Gu Huaizhi, her words sounded like polite deflection, much like her earlier insistence when they got out of the car.
He glanced at the spotless, immaculately clean floor, then silently removed his leather shoes. Without saying a word, he carried Shen Mianyin into the living room and finally asked, “Can I set you down on the sofa?”
Shen Mianyin felt increasingly embarrassed and nodded. “Thank you for the trouble, Mr. Gu.”
Gu Huaizhi also nodded, as if agreeing that it had indeed been trouble.
He carried Shen Mianyin to the edge of the sofa, bending down slowly to set her down. Inevitably, this brought him closer to her.
As he leaned down, he could distinctly feel her breaths brushing against the side of his neck, starting from the base of his ear and trailing downward with his every movement.
Just as Shen Mianyin’s body touched the sofa and she was about to loosen her arms from around Gu Huaizhi’s neck, he suddenly turned his head to look at her.
Their breaths intertwined, and Shen Mianyin was so startled that she forgot to let go, or even to move away.
It was the first time she had seen Gu Huaizhi this up close.
Even at such an exaggerated proximity, his face was flawless—impeccably handsome without a single flaw to be found.
If Gu Huaizhi were just a little more approachable, Gu Luo'an would probably have no place in anyone’s list of ideal husbands.
The man’s high nose bridge was so close that it was almost touching the tip of hers.
Shen Mianyin's lips parted slightly in surprise, revealing a glimpse of her pearly white teeth.
Her gaze, completely beyond her control, was drawn to Gu Huaizhi.
His dark eyes seemed impossibly deep, as if they could swallow her whole. In the reflection of his pupils, she could even see her own face.
Shen Mianyin opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to call his name, but it felt as though her voice was stuck in her throat, unable to come out.
“Your breath is making my neck a bit itchy,” Gu Huaizhi said, his voice unexpectedly hoarse, carrying a hint of something indescribable.
Even Gu Huaizhi himself hadn’t expected his voice to come out so husky.
His eyelashes lowered slightly, concealing some of the darkness in his eyes.
Shen Mianyin’s fingers trembled faintly, accidentally brushing against the hair at the nape of his neck—and along with it, the sensitive skin there.
“Shen Mianyin!” Gu Huaizhi’s eyes narrowed slightly, his breathing becoming heavier, and his voice even rougher.
“I... I didn’t mean to!” Shen Mianyin finally snapped out of her daze and quickly let go of him.
Gu Huaizhi took a deep breath, his expression darkening slightly, and for a moment, he felt an inexplicable reluctance to leave.
He lowered his gaze briefly before straightening up, his hoarse voice carefully restrained. “Get some rest.”
“Thank you, Mr. Gu,” Shen Mianyin replied politely once again.
Gu Huaizhi gave her a long, meaningful look before finally turning to leave.
It wasn’t until Shen Mianyin heard the door close behind him that she let out a long, relieved breath.
Just now, Shen Mianyin had unconsciously held her breath, not realizing it.
Downstairs, Gu Luo'an watched as Gu Huaizhi got into his car and the Mercedes slowly pulled away.
Only when it was completely out of sight did Gu Luo’an grit his teeth and get out of the car with a dark expression.
He walked to the front of the building, but unable to get inside, he could only wait by the side.
Soon enough, a resident exited, allowing Gu Luo’an to slip inside.
It was about fifty minutes before someone finally came out.
Gu Luo’an took the opportunity to step inside as the door opened.
Shen Mianyin was just about to get up to pour herself a glass of water when the doorbell rang.
She walked to the door, mumbling to herself, “Jiang Qi wouldn’t really have bought a cane to send over, would he?”
She thought Gu Huaizhi was just making a sarcastic remark.
Holding onto the wall for support, she slowly made her way to the door, a habit of checking through the peephole first. As she did, she opened the screen to see who it was.
To her surprise, it was Gu Luo’an at the door!
How did he know where she was?
Shen Mianyin furrowed her brow, not opening the door or saying anything, choosing instead to pretend she wasn’t at home.
She figured Gu Luo’an was usually quite impatient, and if he didn’t get an answer quickly, he’d leave.
However, less than a minute later, she heard Gu Luo’an’s voice outside, calling, “Shen Mianyin, I know you’re at home!”
Shen Mianyin pressed her lips together in silence, not expecting Gu Luo’an to stop ringing the doorbell and instead start pounding on the door with force.
“Shen Mianyin, if you don’t open the door, I’m not leaving!”
